Kenneth Slaught is the founder and president of Investec Real Estate Companies. The company formed in 1983, and since, Slaught has grown the firm into the largest real estate development and management business in Santa Barbara County. Investec has acquired more than three million square feet of coastal California apartment, office, retail, and self-storage properties and now employs forty individuals, who alongside Slaught oversee more than $1 billion in assets, maintain accreditation from the Institute of Real Estate Management, and hold a longtime membership within the International Council of Shopping Centers.
As President of Investec, Kenny Slaught played an instrumental role in establishing the firm’s investment strategies and policies, determining the company’s asset class allocations, and overseeing major business decisions. Under his visionary guidance, the company has generated highly profitable opportunities despite times of widely varying financial markets, leading to Investec’s impeccable reputation in the property investment community.
An alumnus of the University of California, Santa Barbara, Slaught earned a degree in business and economics in 1979, as well as a certification from the California Contractors State License Board, and a California real estate broker’s license, which he also obtained in 1979. Prior to forming Investec, he was a founding partner of the MKS Companies, a real estate development, property management, and mortgage brokerage firm.
In addition to his real estate endeavors, Slaught has held leadership positions in many of Southern California’s nonprofit organizations. Working to better his community, he is an active board member of the UCSB Foundation; and formerly served on the board of the Santa Barbara Hospice Foundation. He is also a substantial supporter to the Music Academy of the West, Santa Barbara Scholarship Foundation, and many area high schools.
