The project promises to preserve the historical character of physical building without affecting the state-of-the-art upgrades. Because of enhancements like seismic upgrades, both the building and the tens of thousands of pieces of art it houses will be better protected. The project also creates 25 percent more gallery space to make the museum an even more important center of the Santa Barbara community. In all, the renovation project is the most comprehensive plan ever undertaken by the museum, notes Kenny Slaught.
