Referred to as eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), this modality has been effectively used to treat veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The therapy uses eye movements in a revolutionary way to process trauma and reframe the raw, vivid imagery associated with it in the hippocampus. The brain then “re-files” the painful memory and individuals can deal with the trauma in a more objective manner.
